The issue of public concern I’m passionate about is … providing education opportunities to low-income students and other disadvantaged groups. I believe that access to education creates a platform where one can determine their destiny and master their fate.
Engagement experience: I have helped renovate a library in the upper eastern region of Ghana called Bolgatanga. We provided new furniture, painted the whole building, constructed new bathrooms, built a water tap and turned one of the rooms into a computer lab for students who want to do research for their classes. I have also organized a book drive on Cornell’s campus with other members of the SOSA team which we will donate to primary schools in Ghana. In the summer of 2020, I plan to build another computer lab in primary school in Rwanda.
As an Engaged Ambassador, I … inspire students who want to get involved in community engagement, and I get inspired by what students are doing in their communities. I am hoping to grow and learn from fellow Engaged Ambassadors. I am also excited to be part of a community that is trying to create a world they want to live in rather than accepting the status quo.
I got involved because … I feel that I have been lucky in my education career and life; therefore, I feel a responsibility to create similar or even better opportunities to others who may have not been so lucky. I think that those who have been lucky in life have a responsibility to those who haven’t.
My friends would say I’m … results-oriented, passionate about my country and ambitious.
Best Cornell memory (so far!): Performing at the Sabor Concert last semester.
Fun fact: I am 6’3’’, but am not that tall in Rwanda for guys.
Future plans: My dream is to build an institution of higher learning in Rwanda that would provide opportunity for everyone despite their income bracket.
