Engaged Curriculum Grants

Minor in Health, Hospitality and Design

Creating a sustainable and healthy future through a minor that promotes design innovation, research and community engagement.

Most of today’s healthcare spending is on clinical approaches for diagnosing and treating diseases. However, behavioral, social and environmental factors play a large role in determining overall health. The recently formed Cornell Institute for Healthy Futures developed the new minor in health, hospitality and design as a means of creating a future generation of visionary professionals who understand the interconnections between these growing fields. This innovative cross-disciplinary focus — the first of its kind — has the potential to change industry practices and professional attitudes by breaking down the silos that often undermine creative solutions. Students have an opportunity to synthesize multiple perspectives and deepen their understanding of the three intertwined disciplines while making connections between academic concepts and real-world issues.
