About the Project
Through the Seed the Bloom Project, a project aligned with the course HADM 4125/6125: Foundations of Social Entrepreneurship, students connect with and make a positive difference in the local small business community.
The purpose of the Seed the Bloom Project is to engage the small business community, through an application process, to work directly with students in entrepreneurship classes on elements of their businesses that have social implications. Small business owners benefit through exercises to understand and further define their values, improved socially responsible operations practices via class project work, plans to increase the sale of products that generate proceeds for social causes and community connection to the Cornell entrepreneurship ecosystem. The project benefits students, who will be exposed to real examples of engaged entrepreneurship in local communities, build relationships with entrepreneurs and serve as liaisons for Cornell through coursework.

“I take seriously the belief that it is necessary to exchange ideas and perspective with colleagues across disciplines to be an effective and inspiring university professor. To that end, I also have an interest to make a difference in local entrepreneurship communities by sowing ideas and cultivating community through the Seed the Bloom Project. Participation as a Fellow will further refine my skills in community engagement and course design with a focus on service learning, inform my teaching methods for entrepreneurship education at Cornell and create opportunities to partner with other Fellows on future research and engagement projects to further shape how entrepreneurship education is taught at the university level.”
